Modern policing
Recently, our team wrapped up an intensive production period for the SPVM’s latest recruitment campaign. It was an experience that took us across the island of Montreal, from the heights of the skyline to the waters of the St. Lawrence, to document the reality of modern policing.
A Production Without Borders
To truly showcase the diversity of roles within the SPVM, our crew had to be as mobile as the officers themselves. This wasn’t a typical studio shoot; it was a masterclass in dynamic cinematography. Over the course of the project, the JED Lab team found themselves:
On the Water: Capturing the precision of the nautical units.
In the Air: Documenting the tactical vantage point of aerial surveillance and special units.
On Horseback: Witnessing the unique bond and community presence of the cavalry.
On the Ground: Recording the day-to-day interactions that define urban policing.
More Than Just Specialized Units
While the "action" shots of specialized units are visually arresting, the core of this project was something much deeper. What stood out most to our director, Jack Lafortune, and DOP, Jean-Loup Pinard, wasn’t just the gear or the maneuvers—it was the presence.
Through our lenses, we saw a genuine commitment to the Montreal community. Behind every uniform is a person dedicated to the safety and well-being of their neighbors. Our goal was to strip away the stereotypes and showcase the professionalism, empathy, and humanity required to wear the badge today.

Collaboration is Key
A production of this scale requires seamless synchronization between the creative team and the client. We want to extend a massive thank you to the SPVM team—specifically Noëmie Le Roux—for their trust and transparency. Their cooperation allowed us to get a "front-row seat" to operations that the public rarely sees, ensuring the final film is as authentic as it is impactful.

The Creative Force Behind the Lens
Bringing this vision to life required a dedicated crew capable of handling high-pressure environments:
Director: Jack Lafortune
Director of Photography: Jean-Loup Pinard
Cameraman: Ben Zion Jackson
Production Director: Kate Lalic
Sound: Robert Mastrangelo
Production assistant: Oline Bergin
Why This MattersRecruitment is about more than just filling roles; it’s about finding the right people who resonate with a mission. At JED Lab, we are proud to help the SPVM tell their story, highlighting the diverse career paths available and the vital impact they have on the fabric of our city.
